Freeman’s medals is mis-spelled “Freedman” – this is acknowledged on his medal service card. Spencer Freeman was an amazing man – he was born in Wales, spent time in South Africa and settled in Ireland. He had a long and distinguished career in two world wars. He was also an author and wrote self help books and the book ” Production Under Fire ” – along with two business partners he founded the Irish Sweepstake Lottery in the 1930’s, he later owned a Horse Racing Stud and was involved in the breeding of the racehorse Zucchero (Lester Piggot’s first Derby mount). He also worked for the ESO (Emergency Services Organisation). Freeman served as director at the Ministry of Aircraft Production and in 1945 he was seconded to the Board of Trade on special assignment.
