H&K fretless 7 string bass, active/passive, fret lines, natural, almost unmarked. This is my beloved 7-string fretless bass. I play almost exclusively 5-string, and have found that I just don’t get to use the extended range that this bass provides. This was made for H&K who were a German music company, but I believe it was made in Korea. It is very similar to a Mazeti (I suspect that they are from the same factory) and several other makes. It is a 35-inch scale length, so a bit longer than the usual which helps with lower tunings. It is currently strung with decent quality flatwounds which give a very smooth luxurious feel and sound great (to my ears). Its currently tuned from low F#, so a whole string lower than the low B usually found on 5-string basses. Works fine as a passive bass, and can be switched to passive or active as needed. The active circuit takes two 9v batteries and provides a huge range of tones with active boost/cut on bass, mid and treble. Overall playability is very good even though the neck is wide. The fretless thing is actually not that difficult and the fretlines do help making the transition; and of course you can get that lovely iconic’mwah’ sound, and can slide around the neck smoothly to your heart’s content. It is glorious to look at, and very imposing. The top wood is beautiful and the finish is a soft satin sheen which looks better than in the photos. I think it was an oiled finish originally and I have done nothing to it other than dust it (so no polish, waxes etc). It is in almost’as new’ condition – I can only see one small ding on the lower horn (see photo) which is about 5mm long. This is a rare opportunity to get one of these monsters as they don’t come up for sale very often. I have never regretted having it and trying it and will be sad to see it go. Please be aware that it will likely be quite expensive as it is quite large and heavy. Just a bit disappointed. Another update in answer to a question: The dots on the side of the neck are between the fret lines rather than aligned with the fret lines. I have added a photo to make this clear.
